Why do dementia patients look for their parents?
Security. Often, the person living with dementia calls out for her mom or dad because she’s looking for the presence of a parent to provide security and reassurance in an unfamiliar setting. Think of the young child who wanders off in the store.
Do dementia patients talk about the past?
‘Reminiscence’ means sharing life experiences, memories and stories from the past. Typically, a person with dementia is more able to recall things from many years ago than recent memories, so reminiscence draws on this strength. So many of our conversations and interactions rely on short-term memory.
Do dementia patients ever get their memory back?

Recent memories may be lost completely (for example, what they had for breakfast or when they last saw a friend) and they may only remember parts of past memories.

Is it true that my father is still alive?
My mother also believes that my father is still alive. It is two years since he died and she has been in assisted living for the past year.
