A quick question is one which the questioner hopes, perhaps unrealistically, can be readily dealt with. Quick has many meanings, and they are certainly not limited to describing a fast-moving object.

When someone asks me “I just have a quick question”, my brain would tell me that the question would be short and concise. The corresponding answer should also have the same qualities. By this I mean that a question which can be answered without a lengthy explanation of the governing factors can be termed ‘quick’.

Rather than rude, you would be perceived as highly polite or formal. are just excessively polite ways of framing a request or order that usually needs just a simple ‘please.’ Such phrases are a remnant and reminder of the so-called ‘age of manners’ when it was considered rude not to use such phrases in polite society.
