Why do I have two W 2s from the same employer different states?

By Matthew Martinez

You might get more than one W-2 if your employer switched to a different payroll provider or was taken over by another company, or if you worked at different jobs through the same agency.

What if my W-2 has two states?

If both states collect income taxes and don’t have a reciprocity agreement, you’ll have to pay taxes on your earnings in both states: First, file a nonresident return for the state where you work. You’ll need information from this return to properly file your return in your home state.

Can you have multiple W2’s for different states?

Multiple w-2 for different states. Yes, perfect job! As you already figured out, if you work in more than 1 state, sometimes they will give you another W2 with the extra state information on it and the top part the same or not filled in. If this is the case, list one W-2 but include both state taxes on it.

What does employer address on W-2 mean?

Don’t be concerned, for income tax filing purposes, what the employer’s address on your W-2 indicates. In other words, an employer address on your W-2, that is different from the state (s) in which you live and work, has no actual meaning or effect on how you file your personal income tax return.

Do you look at the ” copy 2 ” version of the W2?

Did you look at the “Copy 2” version of the W2, or are your reading from “Copy B”? OK, so you should be all set. You need to file non-resident returns in those states. yes I understand that but What do I do about the Total State when it say I owe all states but IN and ND say I don’t have money with them.

Where is the fed info on the second W-2?

My second one states on box 14 that FED info is on the first W-2 (I didn’t add this comment on my online W-2, since it’s not associated with any required codes, just the comment). This second W-2 is mostly blank, except for boxes 15 (+Employer ID#), 18, 19, and 20.
